The Laidback Gourmet: eXtreme Candy Blood

Velcome my children of the night for the last of Halloween themed Laidback Gourmets for 2010. I’m kinda sad to see the holiday come and go, but hey, if this is going to be the last Halloween one, might as well go out big. It just so happens that I took a withdrawal from my local bank.

My local blood bank that is. Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! *cough* Man that’s hard on the throat. Today we’ll be looking at Extreme’s Candy Blood. Let me tell you, this is actually a pretty high quality novelty.

Even the bag feels quite similar to the drip bags hospitals use. I don’t know how the stuff on the inside tastes yet, but I can say this treat gets an A for effort. It kind of even looks like the slightly thick consistency of blood. This would be a great prop for someone who wanted to dress up like a mad scientist or something.

You know, there’s one thing I find really strange about this. Yes, something strange of a realistic bag of edible blood! Unthinkable! Seriously though, take a good look at the bag of label. One thing really caught my attention in the nutritional information. Look at the serving size.

1/15??? Seriously? How does that work? From the way I look at this you’re suppose to just sip right from the tube so how are you suppose to figure out what 1/15th of the package is? Even better, that means there’s enough in that small bag for 15 trick or treaters. This must be potent stuff! Well, lets do a little surgery and see how it tastes.

Here a snip, there a snip, everywhere a snip snip. Now that it’s open, lets give this a shot.

UGH! OH MY GOD! This has to be the most vile thing I’ve reviewed so far! It’s disgustingly syrupy and its somehow simultaneously really sour, really sweet and totally flavorless and I have no idea how it manages to be all those things at once.

Wow, I had a feeling this one was going to look better than it tasted but I had no idea it was going to be this disgusting. 1/10. There’s only one place to put this:
