Laidback Gourmet: Peanut Butter Pop Tarts


Welcome back to the Laidback Gourmet and if I’ve said it once I’ve said it every single review, send me your suggestions, I’ll do them! This week’s suggestion came from Superfriend’s own Brandon Myers though it was also confirmed by Big D and Adolfo as well. Every one of them said I had to give these brand new flavor of Pop Tarts a try. So here goes, I’m about to dig into the highly requested Peanut Butter Pop Tarts:



Another name considered other than “Gone Nutty” was “Homicidal Insanely Delicious!”

So, how about that? After being around for decades and being stuffed with everything from fruit to chocolate Pop Tarts has finally decided to try making peanut butter ones. It’s honestly about time since what’s more kid friendly than peanut butter? Also note that Pop Tarts didn’t just release one flavor, oh no, they have to do things in bunches so they released TWO. Standard peanut butter and chocolate peanut butter. Which again, is a great idea because other than myself and Christina Hendricks no two things combine better than chocolate and peanut butter. Let’s open these up and take a look:

On the left you have your standard plain peanut butter Pop Tart while on the right you have the chocolate variety. I kind of like how instead of frosting the plain one is dusted with sugar crystals, just like what you’d find on homemade peanut butter cookies. The right one has a smear of chocolate but the pastry shell itself is a dark color which makes me imagine that it must be chocolate as well.

Now, these are Pop Tarts and as everyone knows you’re suppose to toast those but everyone gave me strict directions NOT to toast them. Instead simply put them in the toaster and WARM them slightly. Well, I’m good at following directions so here goes:



Toaster Cameras are so hot right now.

In order to make sure that I’m toasting it for the right amount of time, let’s watch the theme song of the 1987 cult classic “Out Of This World”.

Alright, that should be long enough, let’s plate them up:



They look spectacular! Or at least Amazing.

I’ll tell you what, they smell absolutely amazing. Like warm cookies straight from the oven. I can only hope that this is a good sign. Let’s give the plain one a try first:

WOW! Apparently my friends have good tastes because this is delicious. It really does taste like a fresh baked peanut butter cookie. The texture is slightly dry like a good peanut butter cookie should be and them being warm just makes the whole experience so much better. Top marks on this one. Let’s hope the chocolate ones are as good!

WOW AGAIN! The chocolate one is honestly just as good. It tastes like eating a peanut butter cup cookie! Once again all this is enhanced by the fact that its wonderfully warmed like a fresh baked cookie. Top marks for this one as well. Too bad they’re not very wacky. Nutty, yes. But that’s not the same thing as wacky. But you still should rush out and buy a box of these! Final Score:
